Getting Crew and Gear to the Island
The honest difference between an island job and a mainland one is logistics. Chippers, grinders and trucks travel by vehicular ferry, and that has to be booked and paid for whether the job takes two hours or two days. It is the single biggest reason Waiheke pricing looks different to a comparable job in the city.
The practical answer is to do everything in one mobilisation. If you have a removal, a couple of stumps and some pruning you have been putting off, get them scoped together — the crossing is the fixed cost, and once the gear is on the island the additional work is priced at normal rates. We are also happy to coordinate with neighbours doing similar work so the crossing is shared across more than one property.

Green Waste and Protected Trees
Getting material off the island is expensive, so wherever it makes sense we chip on site and leave the mulch for garden beds, banks and tracks. On rural and bush-margin properties that is usually the better outcome anyway — it goes straight back into ground that needs it, rather than onto a barge.
It is also worth knowing that a good deal of Waiheke's native vegetation is protected, and pōhutukawa in particular attract attention. Council rules apply to removal and to significant pruning on many sections, so confirm the position for your address with Auckland Council before booking work. We will flag it during the quote if we think your tree is likely to fall under those rules.
