Auckland Palm Tree Removal
Palms are everywhere in Auckland and almost none of them were planted with their eventual size in mind. Queen palms shed constantly and seed through entire streets. Phoenix palms grow enormous, carry spines that will go through a glove, and get to a height where a ladder simply is not an option any more.
Palms also cannot be dismantled the way a hardwood can — there is no branching structure to climb and no heartwood to hold a hinge, so the whole crown load shifts at once if the cut is wrong. Our crews rig the crown off first where the palm is close to a house or a fence, then lower the trunk in controlled lifts. Full details on the root-ball and site reinstatement side are on our palm tree removal page.
Auckland Stump Grinding
A stump left in the ground is a trip hazard, a mowing obstacle and a slow-release problem — it will happily throw suckers for years, and it will get in the way the moment you want to pave, build or replant over it.
We grind below grade so the ground is genuinely usable again, and we work around the things that make Auckland sections awkward: narrow side gates, underground services, retaining walls and neighbouring boundaries. If you have several stumps, they are cheaper done in one visit than booked separately. See our stump grinding page for how we approach depth and site clean-up.
Auckland Tree Pruning
Pruning is where the difference between a qualified arborist and a keen amateur shows up most clearly, and it shows up about two years later. Bad cuts do not close over. Topped trees throw weak regrowth that fails in the next big blow. A limb taken off from the wrong side leaves a wound the tree cannot seal, and decay works inwards from there.
Our team prunes for the tree's structure as much as its appearance — thinning dense canopies so wind passes through, lifting crowns off roofs and driveways, and taking height back to growth points the tree can recover from. Fruit trees get their own treatment and their own timing, covered on our fruit tree pruning page.
Auckland Hedge Trimming
Hedges are the job most people start doing themselves and stop once the height gets away on them. Pittosporum, griselinia and photinia all grow faster than anyone expects, and once a hedge is over about three metres you need a platform and a straight eye to keep the line true.
We trim boundary hedges, shelter belts and screening plantings back to an even face and a height you can actually maintain, clearing the arisings as we go. Where a hedge has been left long enough to go woody and bare at the base, we will tell you honestly whether it will recover from a hard cut or whether replanting is the better spend. Related work is covered under tree trimming.
Kauri Dieback in Auckland
Kauri dieback has changed how tree work is done anywhere near these trees, and rightly so. The pathogen moves in soil and water, which means a teaspoon of dirt on a boot or a digger bucket is enough to carry it onto a clean site. Hygiene matters more than anything you can do to the tree itself.
Our crews clean gear down between properties and plan work to keep traffic off the root zone. If you have a kauri showing gum bleeds at the base, yellowing foliage or a thinning canopy, get it assessed before you do anything else — and know that removing a kauri in Auckland generally requires council consent regardless of its condition. Our kauri dieback page covers symptoms, hygiene practice and when removal is genuinely the right call.
